For Union County, New Jersey homes in Westfield, Summit, New Providence, Berkeley Heights, Mountainside, Scotch Plains, Cranford and Fanwood, we steam-clean range hoods, wall ovens, cooktops, dishwashers and patio grills. A Thermador Star burner has five points instead of a round ring, so boil-overs settle into its notches, and each point gets detailed by hand.
The kitchens here
Most Union County kitchens are older houses that were opened up. Westfield and Summit have pre-war colonials, Tudors and Victorians where a galley behind a swinging door became one room with the family room, and a pro range came in with the change. New Providence and Berkeley Heights lean mid-century, with splits and ranches that got the same treatment a generation later, often with an island hood over a cooktop. Mountainside and Scotch Plains add larger homes on the slopes by the Watchung Reservation. Wall ovens turn up in all of them, because an opened-up kitchen usually gains a wall of cabinets.
The kitchens we see in Westfield, Summit and Union County
A lot of the Union County kitchens we walk into used to be two rooms. In Westfield and Summit that usually means a pre-war colonial or Tudor where the old galley, the pantry and a back hallway came down to make one kitchen open to the family room. The range got bigger in the process. So did the hood, and it went up on a wall that was never framed to carry a duct, which means the run to the outside takes a longer route than anyone would draw from scratch. Hood and blower cleaning for converted galley kitchens starts right where that duct leaves the hood.
New Providence and Berkeley Heights got the same idea a generation later, in splits and ranches. Walls came out, an island went in, and the cooktop moved to the middle of the room with an island hood hanging over it. An island hood has no wall behind it to help steer the smoke, so a loaded filter shows up as a smell on the far side of the room before anyone thinks to look up.
Up by the Watchung Reservation, the homes in Mountainside, Scotch Plains and the upper streets of Berkeley Heights run larger, and many of them have a stacked double wall oven like the one in the photo above: two cavities in a cabinet wall, a touch panel across the top, a drawer underneath. That panel is the part people get wrong at home. Spray cleaner finds the seams around a touch panel, and we’d rather steam the glass and wipe the controls by hand. If a panel or a door hinge is already failing, we’ll point it out, but the repair belongs to an appliance tech.
What Union County, New Jersey homeowners book most
Thermador comes up often in these renovations, and it cleans differently from the other pro brands. The Star burners trap boil-overs in their points, and the wall ovens raise the self-clean question every time. Thermador Star burner and wall oven cleaning walks through both. Our short answer on self-clean is that we’d rather use steam. The cycle burns residue to ash at very high heat, that heat soaks into the gasket and the electronics, and over the years steam is the easier life for an oven.
The ovens themselves come next. Steam cleaning for wall ovens and ranges covers both cavities, the racks, the door glass and the gasket, and on a double oven the doors come off where the design allows it. It’s slow, careful work, and it’s usually the longest part of the visit.
Then there’s the dishwasher. An open kitchen puts the dishwasher a few steps from the sofa, and when the filter and the sump are packed with grease you notice it across the room. Deep cleaning a dishwasher that smells means the filter, the spray arms, the sump and the door gasket, plus a descale. It’s not a glamorous booking. We still think it’s one of the best-value jobs in a house like this.
The yards in Westfield, Cranford and Fanwood are smaller than a Somerset estate, but a patio grill still wants grill and patio kitchen cleaning once the season starts. Plenty of these kitchens aren’t Thermador at all, and the full list of brands we service covers the Wolf, Viking, Miele and Monogram kitchens too. We can’t give you a monthly search count for Fanwood or Mountainside. Towns that size sit below what Google’s keyword tools will report, and a made-up number would be worse than none.
Getting to you around the Watchung Reservation
Route 22 carries us through Mountainside and along the edge of Scotch Plains. I-78 has exits for Berkeley Heights and Summit, and Route 24 and Springfield Avenue take us into Summit and New Providence. On the eastern side, Route 28 runs through Westfield and Cranford and the Garden State Parkway drops us near Cranford.
Nearly every job here is a house with a driveway, which makes the day simple. Downtown Westfield and downtown Summit are the exceptions, with metered spaces and busy lots around the condo buildings, so tell us where we can pull in. Scheduling runs Monday to Friday, and urgent requests come in by phone.
Nearby
Short Hills borders Summit but belongs to Millburn Township, so you’ll find it on Short Hills and the rest of Essex. Watchung, just west of Scotch Plains, is a Somerset County borough listed with Warren and Watchung in Somerset County. Across the Passaic River from Summit, Chatham and Madison are covered on the Chatham and Madison page for Morris.
Not sure what brand the wall ovens are? The model plate is usually on the oven frame, visible with the door open, and a photo of it saves both of us a phone call.
