Outdoor kitchen, grill and range hood cleaning in Monmouth County, NJ

The Navesink and Shrewsbury river towns, the horse farms inland and the beach blocks as far south as Bay Head. Grills that live in salt air, and the kitchens behind them.

Along Monmouth County and the northern Jersey Shore, we clean outdoor kitchens, restore BBQ grills and steam-clean range hoods and ovens for homes in Rumson, Fair Haven, Little Silver, Colts Neck, Holmdel, Deal, Allenhurst, Spring Lake and Sea Girt, and just over the county line in Bay Head and Mantoloking in Ocean County. Salt air leaves stainless steel with brown tea staining and small pits, and a restoration polishes that back along the grain as far as the metal allows.

The kitchens here

Monmouth County has three settings, and each is hard on an appliance in its own way. The river estates of Rumson, Fair Haven and Little Silver, and the Navesink and Locust sections of Middletown, face the water with outdoor kitchens set in stone. Inland, Colts Neck and Holmdel are horse-farm country, with big kitchens and grills that see a long season. On the coast, Deal and Allenhurst have oceanfront houses, and Spring Lake, Sea Girt and Avon-by-the-Sea have shore houses a few blocks from the beach, where salt air works on every exposed piece of stainless. Bay Head and Mantoloking, just south in Ocean County, share that same problem.

The kitchens we see along the Monmouth County shore

Salt air is the whole conversation down here. A good stainless grill a few blocks from the ocean in Spring Lake, Sea Girt or Deal doesn’t rust the way cheap steel does, but it does stain. Brown tea staining creeps across the lid and the control panel, and small pits start wherever salt sat on the metal and nobody rinsed it off. Look at the Sedona by Lynx in the photo above, lid up, grates clean, a griddle plate set over one side. That’s how the cooking surface should look after a visit, and on a shore grill the outside is where trouble shows first.

The river towns are a different kind of busy. In Rumson, Fair Haven and Little Silver, and in Middletown’s Navesink and Locust sections, the outdoor kitchen usually faces the Navesink or the Shrewsbury River: a built-in grill, a side burner, often a refrigerator drawer and a sink, all set into stone and cooked on hard from Memorial Day on. Red Bank and Shrewsbury sit right behind them, with smaller yards and the same appetite for grilling.

Colts Neck and Holmdel are inland horse-farm country, and Manalapan and Marlboro add big newer houses. Their kitchens are the pro kitchens you’d expect, a wide range, a hood liner and double ovens, and the grill out back gets a long season. The before-and-after photos on our homepage, from one of our own grill jobs, show what skipped seasons leave behind: burner tubes and a lower housing caked in carbon in the first shots, bare stainless in the second.

Bay Head and Mantoloking aren’t in Monmouth County at all. They’re Ocean County towns on the barrier island just south of Point Pleasant Beach, and we list them as Bay Head (Ocean County) and Mantoloking (Ocean County) because they’re a short run down Route 35 from Sea Girt and their grills fight the same ocean air.

What Rumson, Colts Neck and Spring Lake homeowners book most

The outdoor kitchen, before the season starts. Shore house outdoor kitchen cleaning takes the grill apart as far as its design allows, clears the firebox and the lid, and does the drawers, the side burner, the refrigerator and the sink while we’re out there. Grease left in a grill’s lower housing is what feeds a flare-up, and clearing it out cuts the fire risk far more than a brush on the grates ever will.

When a shore grill has sat through a few seasons, soap won’t fix it. Restoring a grill the ocean air has pitted is the full teardown: burner tubes, flavorizer bars, briquette trays, igniters and the drip tray out, heat tint and tea staining worked back, the stainless polished along its grain. Deep pitting can be improved, not erased. We’ll say that plainly before you decide.

In our view, a grill this close to the ocean should get a fresh-water rinse and a wipe after a salty week, and a cover that lets moisture out. Do that and you’ll need us less often, which we’re fine with.

Inside, the booking is the hood and the range. Range hood cleaning for river and shore houses handles the baffles, the liner and the blower, and steaming the oven before summer guests gets the racks, the glass and the gasket done while the house is still quiet. Outdoor makes like Lynx, DCS and Kalamazoo each come apart their own way, and so do the Wolf and Viking ranges inside, which is what brand notes from Wolf to Lynx covers. Monmouth County searches show up in keyword data; Sea Girt and Allenhurst on their own don’t, because towns that size fall under Google’s reporting floor.

Getting to you down the Parkway and Route 35

The Garden State Parkway gets us into the county, and from there it depends on the town. Rumson Road runs out to Rumson and Fair Haven. Route 34 and Route 537 cross Colts Neck, Route 9 and Route 18 reach Manalapan, Marlboro and Holmdel, and Route 71 and Route 35 run down the coast through Spring Lake and Sea Girt toward Bay Head and Mantoloking.

Summer changes the shore towns. The beach blocks in Spring Lake, Sea Girt and Avon-by-the-Sea fill with parked cars, so let us know if we can use the driveway, and a morning start beats the beach traffic. Some of the river estates have gates; send the code or the name of whoever is meeting us. Scheduling runs Monday to Friday. For anything urgent, call.

Nearby

North up the Parkway, Westfield, Cranford and Summit are on Union County, up the Parkway, and the estates of Far Hills and Bedminster are on the Somerset County estate kitchens page. Across the Outerbridge Crossing, the hillside houses of Staten Island, across Raritan Bay have grills and outdoor kitchens of their own.

Photograph the grill with the lid up and the grates out, then one more of the control panel in daylight. Salt damage shows up best in plain sun.

Local questions

Monmouth County questions, answered

Can salt pitting on a stainless grill be polished out?

Light pitting and tea staining, mostly yes. We work the stainless back along its grain until the surface is even again. Deep pits can be improved but not erased, and if salt has eaten through a burner or a bottom panel, that grill needs a part rather than a polish.

Our shore house only opens for the summer. When should we book the grill?

Before you open the house, not the week guests arrive. A visit in the spring gets the grill, the island and the kitchen hood done while the place is quiet. If nobody will be down yet, tell us who has the key.

Do you really go down to Bay Head and Mantoloking?

Yes. They're in Ocean County, not Monmouth, but they sit a short run down the coast from Sea Girt and their houses deal with the same salt air, so we list them here. The visit is the same.

Is a cart grill worth restoring, or should we just replace it?

It depends on the firebox and the burners. A good stainless cart grill with sound castings is usually worth bringing back, and we'll say so. If the burners are rusted through and the housing is pitted deep, we'll tell you that too, before you pay for a restoration.

We rent the house out in July and August. Can you clean between tenants?

On a weekday, yes. We schedule Monday to Friday, so a Saturday changeover won't work, but a midweek gap between bookings does. Send us the dates and the access details early in the season.
